Overview

Katie counsels and advocates for clients seeking to manage or prevent workplace disputes. She advises employers on a broad range of employment law concerns, including discrimination, retaliation, wrongful discharge, disability accommodations, family and medical leave, wage and hour law, non-compete and non-solicitation agreements, and employee terminations and reductions in force.

Katie also partners with employers to develop policies and solutions for managing workplace disputes by ensuring clients have strong foundational documents such as workplace policies, employee handbooks, and employment contracts.

In addition, Katie is an experienced litigator who has successfully represented companies, employers, and municipalities in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels. Her litigation practice has focused on employment disputes, complex business disputes, bankruptcy matters, local government and coastal land use law, and maritime law.

Prior to joining Michael Best, Katie was a litigator with Forrest Firm in Wilmington. She began her legal career as a law clerk for the Honorable Robert B. Jones, Jr. at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
