Overview

Jason brings a technical background in mechanical engineering to the full spectrum of patent issues related to mechanical and electromechanical products and systems. Clients look to him for his expertise in preparing, prosecuting, and analyzing patents directed to power tools, hydraulic systems, electrical switchgear, food and beverage equipment, diesel exhaust aftertreatment systems, and automotive components, among others.

Prior to joining Michael Best, Jason worked at an architectural and engineering design firm, where he assisted in designing and drafting HVAC, piping, and other mechanical systems. Jason then worked at Michael Best as a Patent Engineer before attending law school.

Experience

Jason has extensive experience in:

  • Preparing and prosecuting utility and design patent applications, including PCT applications and international design applications;
  • Conducting patent searches and analysis (including clearance, patentability, invalidity, and state-of-the-art searches);
  • Invalidating claims of patents in post-grant proceedings at the USPTO;
  • Performing patent due diligence studies in preparation for mergers and acquisitions;
  • Analyzing competitor products for potential patent infringement and tailoring patent prosecution strategies to target competitor products; and
  • Developing competitor patent monitoring programs.
