Overview

Jamie provides a broad spectrum of business immigration services to firm clients.

Jamie has more than 10 years of experience providing business immigration services. She has extensive experience with H-1B and TN applications, as well as the management of a J-1 Exchange Visitor program, facilitating the sponsorship of Research Scholars, Short Term Scholars, Student Interns and Alien Physicians. In addition, she has advanced experience preparing PERM applications and providing guidance on the employment-based permanent residency process. She has worked closely with physicians, researchers, IT professionals, and other healthcare workers to process and provide guidance related to J-1 waivers, non-immigrant visa petitions, and permanent residency applications. She also has direct experience maintaining and re-verifying I-9 forms and advising HR professionals on the proper completion of an I-9. 

 

Prior to joining Michael Best, Jamie spent nearly 13 years with the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), where she worked as an immigration consultant, employment and immigration specialist and administrative assistant. In her former capacity, she managed a one-person immigration office within the Office of Human Resources, providing immigration-related support and guidance to departmental leadership, hiring managers and foreign nationals as well as other HR professionals. 

In addition to her immigration work experience, Jamie has broad experience with staff recruitment, including resume review, conducting interviews, evaluating candidates, promoting effective sourcing strategies, and developing compensation offers. She co-managed the implementation of an electronic I-9 system at MCW and was part of a small team responsible for providing ongoing training and support for administrative professionals utilizing the system.

Jamie’s immigration-related experience includes:

  • Facilitating work authorization sponsorship (J-1, H-1B, O-1, TN) and employment-based permanent residency processes
  • Filing change-of-status petitions and TN applications
  • Maintenance and verification of 1-9 forms
