Michael Best Announces 2022 Diversity Scholarship Recipients

Michael Best is pleased to announce the 2022 Michael Best Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Scholarship recipients, awarded to Kam Faines, Danial Manzoor and Jason-Ray Swaby.

The scholarship is one of many efforts in Michael Best’s longtime commitment to provide opportunities and programming to foster a diverse and inclusive culture at the firm and in the legal industry at large.

This award is given to first- and second-year law students, providing financial assistance towards law school, along with valuable, hands-on experience in the industry. The prior eight scholarship recipients have all gone on to join Michael Best full-time after graduating law school.

Kam Faines recently transferred to the UW-Madison from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he served as a representative of the Black Law Student Association. Faines summered with the firm in the summer program in 2021 and 2022. Additionally, he received his B.A. in Sociology from Davidson College, where he played on the Men’s Basketball Team and was involved in the Davidson Entrepreneurship program.

Danial Manzoor is a rising second year at UW-Madison and is a member of several diversity organizations at the law school. He spent the 2022 summer with Michael Best and will be returning for the 2023 Summer Program. Prior to pursuing his law degree, Manzoor joined Michael Best in 2018 as a legal assistant and was then promoted to client intake specialist. Manzoor studied Political Science and Sociology at Rutgers University where he graduated with honors and was named an American Politics & Public Policy Ruth K. Bennett Scholar.

Jason-Ray Swaby, who also attends UW-Madison, is the Executive Director of the Black Law Student Association, and he serves on the Moot Court Board and volunteers with the Unemployment Appeals Clinic. Swaby was also a member of the firm’s 2022 summer associate class. He earned both his Master and Bachelor of Science in International Affairs from Florida State University.

Both Faines and Swaby will be returning to Michael Best to work full-time after graduation. Faines will be joining the Venture Best practice group and Swaby will work in the Tax subgroup of the Corporate practice group. Additionally, Manzoor will stay onboard during the school year working as a law clerk.
