Michael Best is pleased to announce that Jorge Leon has been named as a Notable Leader in Employment & Labor Law by Crain’s Chicago Business. Recipients are honored for making a measurable impact on cases they’ve handled and/or won, their mentorship to other attorneys and promotion of inclusive practice in the workplace, and their demonstrated leadership in professional organizations and community service initiatives. Leon was recognized specifically for his pioneering work in the emerging area of ERISA cybersecurity and his compensation and employment law contributions to the community organizations he serves.
Based in Michael Best’s Chicago office, Leon is a partner and co-leader of the firm’s Employee Benefits group. As a boardroom insider for public and privately-held companies, Leon works alongside directors, compensation committees and c-suite executives to help solve critical hiring, compensation and benefit issues. With his clients ranging from small operations to large multinational companies, he provides strategic counsel on benefit and compensation plans, fiduciary risk mitigation and litigation avoidance.
Outside of practicing law, Leon is heavily involved in the community by actively serving in leadership positions on numerous boards, including The Field Museum, Gads Hill Center, and the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois Charities. Additionally, earlier this year, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker appointed Leon to serve as a member of Northeastern Illinois University’s Board of Trustees for a three-year term. Leon also serves as the co-chair of Michael Best’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and is a member of the Leadership Advisory Council of the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce and of the Economic Club of Chicago. Leon is involved in several bar associations and is a Fellow of both the American Bar Foundation and the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity.
Leon earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law and his B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
