James assists clients with the federal and state income tax aspects of a variety of business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, incorporation/organization events, and Code Section 1202 qualification issues. James also handles all aspects of tax transactions for public companies and closely held businesses, whether treated as a C corporation, S corporation, partnership, or sole proprietorship for tax purposes. He also counsels businesses on new tax legislation and compliance and advises on corporate formation and governance matters.

Michelle provides strategic counsel and representation to clients involved in a range of construction, real estate, and project development matters. Representative work includes complex real estate purchase, sale and leasing transactions, entitlement processes, easements, licenses and rights-of-entry agreements, developing and implementing best practices on large-scale, high-ticket construction and development projects, and more. 

As a member of the firm’s Marketing and Business Development team, Lauren works closely with attorneys on client development efforts, service delivery, growth strategy, and operational excellence. She leverages a background in the start-up space and considerable experience working in business operations, including the areas of business planning, management, marketing strategy, financial analytics, recruiting, contract negotiations, and process automation.

Lyle focuses his practice in the area of intellectual property and transactional law. He provides end-to-end counsel to help clients identify, protect, and commercialize IP assets including trademarks, patents, and trade secrets. He works closely with his clients to understand their business priorities and help them align their IP, contractual, and government procurement needs to support those goals.

Ryan is a paralegal in the firm’s Corporate Practice Group. He assists Michael Best attorneys with a variety real estate, corporate, and data privacy matters. He conducts property and tax assessment research, performs due diligence, ALTA/NSPS land survey analysis, title and policy review, evaluation of agricultural foreclosures, and manages closings for commercial, residential, and agricultural real estate transactions throughout the country.

Laura helps clients protect their brands and artistic works through trademark and copyright prosecution, clearance, counseling, and enforcement, including trademark opposition, cancellation, and infringement proceedings before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) and global courts and trademark offices. 

Jason is a senior paralegal in the Real Estate and Corporate & Transactional Practice Groups in the firm’s Milwaukee office. He brings a multifaceted, big picture outlook to helping clients unravel the challenges of complex benefits-related problems.He has established a strong track record in achieving successful outcomes for clients confronted by employee benefits litigation and arbitration claims. Mark has also successfully litigated patent and trade secret litigation claims, as well as employment non-compete claims.
