My Why

What powers my practice

I didn’t start my career as a lawyer, and I think that makes me a better one.

In my former life, I was a journalist and a high school English teacher. As a journalist, I learned how to ask the right questions, cut through the noise, and figure out what actually matters. Standing in front of a class 16-year-olds taught me that having a good point is useless if you cannot get people to understand it. Both taught me how to read a room, adjust to the audience, and tell a story that sticks.

That is still how I approach clients and problems today. Sometimes it is a lawsuit. Sometimes it is a negotiation, a business problem, a sensitive conversation, or something that does not fit neatly into a legal box. I like being the person clients call when something is complicated, important, or just plain messy.

The through-line is problem-solving. Understand the people. Find the real issue. Make the complex understandable. Then figure out the smartest way forward.

Overview

Jon is a commercial litigation partner who represents companies and business owners in high-stakes commercial disputes. Clients also turn to him for help navigating negotiations, internal disputes, regulatory issues, and other situations where legal judgment, business considerations, and people dynamics intersect. Regardless of the issue, Jon takes a pragmatic approach using technology and AI to improve efficiency, sharpen analysis, and deliver better work without adding unnecessary cost or complexity.

Jon’s litigation practice includes breach of contract and shareholder and member disputes, business divorces and buy-outs, trade secret and non-solicitation claims, real estate disputes, and copyright matters, as well as investigations and enforcement actions by the SEC, FTC, and Consumer Product Safety Commission. He speaks regularly on legal technology and AI, including before the International Legal Technology Association and the National Business Institute.

Jon joined Michael Best with the New York team of Kane Kessler, where he was a litigation partner and a member of the firm’s AI and Technology Committees. Prior to joining Kane Kessler, Jon practiced at an AmLaw 10 firm and a prominent litigation boutique. Before entering law school, Jon was a high school English teacher and writer for New York Magazine, Details, Fast Company, and other publications.
