Michael Best is pleased to announce that David Alexander has joined the firm’s Chicago office as senior counsel in the Real Estate practice group. Alexander is a commercial real estate, corporate, and cross-border business attorney with over 20 years of experience.

He advises global and national organizations on complex commercial real estate, corporate, and commercial transactions across the U.S. As a former equity partner in the real estate practice group at a Japan-focused business law firm, Alexander is also a proven leader in the U.S.-Japan business community and Midwest real estate markets where he delivers sophisticated transactional counsel combining complex deal experience with practical and effective business judgment.

“David has built an impressive real estate practice advising clients on high-value transactions throughout the Midwest,” said Paul Jonas, Partner and Sub-Group Leader of the Real Estate group. “His experience working with multinational, public, middle-market, and closely held clients enhances our ability to serve companies across a wide range of industries and real estate needs. We are thrilled to add someone of David's caliber to the group.”

Prior to joining Michael Best, Alexander founded and led a boutique transactional law firm with a particular focus on U.S. subsidiaries of Japanese companies and Midwest real estate and corporate transactions. He served as transactional counsel to these subsidiaries, handling corporate, commercial, and real estate matters as well as leading complex commercial real estate transactions such as acquisitions, dispositions, development, financing, and operational real estate issues across the Midwest.

“David is a tremendous addition to our Chicago office,” said Kerryann Minton, Managing Partner of the Chicago office. “His extensive experience advising businesses, developers, and investors on real estate matters throughout Illinois and the broader Midwest strengthens the firm’s presence in one of the region’s most active markets and further enhances the service we provide to clients.”

Alexander earned his J.D. from the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Chicago-Kent College of Law and his Master’s in Public Affairs from the University of Missouri.
