Michael Best &amp; Friedrich LLP has welcomed a new chief operating officer from real estate brokerage firm Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., where he held senior chief operating officer and strategic leadership roles.

Jeff Mayer has joined Michael Best as its COO, where he will work with the firm's managing partner, management committee and practice group leaders to advance Michael Best's strategic priorities, strengthen its operational excellence and help position the firm for continued growth and client success, Michael Best said Tuesday.

"As the legal industry continues to evolve, Michael Best is well-positioned to build on its strong foundation of client service and relationships," Mayer said in the statement. "I look forward to working with firm leadership to deliver on the firm's strategic goals and enhance operational effectiveness across the organization."

Mayer wasn't immediately available for additional comment.

A firm spokesperson told Law360 Pulse on Wednesday that the firm has had the COO position before, but it had been vacant for several years until now.

Mayer joins Michael Best after the firm conducted a national search committed to identifying a leader to help guide the firm through the next phase of its history while staying grounded in the firm's longstanding commitment to exceptional client service and personal relationships, according to the firm.

"Jeff's unique combination of operational leadership, strategic vision, and technology-enabled transformation is a strong asset we are excited to add to our firm's capacity," said David Krutz, Michael Best's firm managing partner, in the statement. "As our firm continues to evolve in our efforts to lead the market in client responsiveness and value, his perspective and leadership will strengthen how we operate, enhance delivery of client services, and drive our firm's continued growth."

Mayer worked at Jones Lang LaSalle for nearly seven years, his LinkedIn profile shows. Most recently, he was global chief operating officer of portfolio and asset advisory. He had served in other roles, including as interim global chief operating officer of value and risk advisory and global chief strategy officer of valuation advisory.

Mayer joined Jones Lang LaSalle from Deloitte, where he served as senior manager of human capital, organization transformation and talent for over five years, his profile shows.

He previously worked at Ciber for six years as a senior consultant and organizational development practice lead, according to his profile. Mayer also spent seven years as senior learning manager and acting director of carrier services at XO Communications.
