As a Principal on the Michael Best Strategies' federal government relations team with over ten years of experience, Sarah brings a strong legal background and understanding of where law and policy intersect.
She works with businesses, non-profits, and associations to help them successfully navigate the federal government by developing and implementing public policy, political, and corporate strategies that create and protect market opportunities as well as build and protect their brands. She provides intelligence and thought leadership on legislative and regulatory issues impacting their business. As an active member in the firm’s Blockchain, Digital Currencies & Smart Contracts industry group, Sarah partners with clients who are heavily involved in emerging technologies, including blockchain technology and AI. Additionally, she provides strategic guidance on matters involving privacy and cybersecurity, tax, trade, water, higher education, and labor.
Prior to joining Michael Best Strategies, Sarah served as Regulatory Counsel at ASTM International. In this role, Helton supported the Office Global Policy and Industry Affairs on legal, legislative, and regulatory matters. She advised on current and emerging federal policy and regulatory matters that affected diverse industries, including energy, environment, transportation, technology, and trade. Sarah also assisted the General Counsel on intellectual property, litigation, employment, and contract issues. She authored numerous comments in response to federal rule-makings and an amicus brief to the World Trade Organization. Given Sarah’s legal and political experiences, she has developed key relationships and partnerships with various public and private stakeholders.
Sarah also worked at the National Beer Wholesalers Association, one of the most powerful associations in Washington, D.C., and served on the Republican National Committee’s Finance team throughout the 2008 Presidential election cycle.
