Michael Best is pleased to announce that Rebecca Mordas has joined the firm as Senior Counsel in the Labor & Employment practice group, focusing on the Benefits subgroup, and will be based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
With over 15 years of experience in employee benefits, labor, and employment law, Mordas brings a wealth of expertise supporting plan sponsors, administrators, and employers on a wide range of benefits and compliance matters. Prior to joining Michael Best, she served as Assistant General Counsel at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), where she provided legal support for retirement and welfare benefit plans, advised on ERISA, ACA, CAA, MHPAEA, IRC, and HIPAA compliance, and led initiatives to implement federal regulatory changes impacting health and welfare plans.
“We are excited to have Rebecca join our Benefits subgroup as part of our Labor & Employment team,” said Brian Paul, Chair of Michael Best’s Labor & Employment Practice Group. “Rebecca’s deep experience helping employers to manage and understand their health and welfare obligations and opportunities, as well as compliance work with other key regulations, will continue to enhance our ability to serve clients facing complex benefits challenges. Her addition strengthens our commitment to providing strategic, practical counsel to employers navigating the evolving landscape of employee benefits.”
Mordas’s experience includes plan documentation, summary plan descriptions, amendments, and participant communications; advising on administrative claims, plan service provider contracts, and wellness plan rules; and supporting litigation, regulatory filings, and compliance training. She has also managed outside counsel for complex employment disputes and developed training programs on legal and compliance issues for staff.
“We are happy to welcome Rebecca to Michael Best’s DC Office,” said Dave Crass, Managing Partner of Michael Best’s Washington, D.C. We look forward to working with her on client matters and collaborating to continue the expansion of Michael Best’s DC presence.” In her new role, Mordas will support Michael Best’s labor and employment clients by advising on the design, administration, and compliance of employee benefit plans, including retirement, health, and welfare programs. She will also help navigate federal and state regulations, including ERISA, ACA, and HIPAA, to ensure clients’ benefit plans remain compliant and competitive, and provide strategic guidance on plan amendments, service provider contracts, wellness programs, and regulatory filings, in addition to other labor and employment matters.
