Greater Milwaukee Foundation Honors José Olivieri with the 2022 President’s Leadership in Racial Equity and Social Justice Award

Michael Best is pleased to announce that José Olivieri has received the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s 2022 President’s Leadership in Racial Equity and Social Justice Award. The award is given to those who have worked to make Milwaukee welcoming and inclusive for all people, of all races, places, identities, and backgrounds.

Olivieri is the Co-Managing Partner for Michael Best’s Milwaukee office and leader of the firm’s Higher Education Industry Group. As a go-to Employment Law advisor, Olivieri helps employers navigate Federal and state discrimination law, the Fair Labor Standards Act, employee termination and discipline, and unemployment compensation. Additionally, he regularly counsels public and private colleges and universities on issues ranging from contract administration to Title IX.

As the founder of Michael Best’s immigration practice, clients regularly depend on Olivieri’s deep knowledge and experience with U.S. immigration law and employment-based immigration matters. He counsels clients on citizenship and naturalization, permanent labor certification, immigration status, and I-9 compliance. Throughout his career, Olivieri has worked to confront issues affecting the Latino community and has assisted in the professional development of Latinos in the legal field, including helping found the Wisconsin Hispanic Lawyers Association

Outside of Michael Best, Olivieri is a regular speaker at Marquette University Law School, where he has previously taught the Advanced Employment Law Seminar. He also serves on a plethora of leadership boards, including Legal Action of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Public Library Foundation, and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. Additionally, Olivieri is a member of the Hispanic Collaborative, an organization that works to advance outcomes for Latinos in the region.
