Overview

AJ brings more than 17 years of experience guiding clients through complex commercial and intellectual property litigation in federal and state courts. His practice focuses on resolving high-stakes disputes involving breach of contract, business torts, real estate, class actions, land use, trademark, copyright, and patent infringement, toxic torts, and employment discrimination. He combines strategic insight with hands-on trial experience to deliver practical, results-driven solutions across all stages of litigation. 

AJ has served as both first- and second-chair trial counsel in bench and jury trials, as well as arbitration proceedings in commercial disputes. He has argued before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, managed large-scale discovery and e-discovery projects, and drafted a wide range of pleadings, motions, and briefs. His experience in intellectual property matters includes representing clients in patent, copyright, and trademark infringement cases and developing litigation strategies for complex IP disputes. 

Drawing on extensive government experience, AJ served as an assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, representing the federal government in matters involving Bivens claims, Federal Tort Claims Act cases, habeas corpus petitions, Freedom of Information Act disputes, immigration lawsuits, employment discrimination disputes, and False Claims Act investigations. His government experience deepened his understanding of federal litigation and strengthened his skills in case management and advocacy. 

AJ began his legal career as a judicial law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, where he clerked for the Honorable William Conley, the Honorable Barbara Crabb, and the Honorable John Shabaz.

  • Settled various tort cases brought against various government agencies with values ranging from $20,000 to $1 million.
  • Successfully obtained summary judgment in in federal district court in favor of various government agencies in cases involving allegations of discrimination.
  • Participated in government investigations in entities for discriminatory practices or potential False Claims Act violations.
  • Represented an ethanol production company in a trial victory involving a breach of contract dispute tried to jury in the Minnesota State Court, valued in excess of $200,000
  • Represented the creators of an on-line restaurant ordering app, settled a class action lawsuit before a federal court, alleging a violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, worth in excess of $150,000
  • Represented a cigarette manufacturer in settling, on the eve of trial, a trademark infringement case before a federal court, worth in excess of $300,000
  • Represented a major manufacturer of bathroom fixtures in settling a patent infringement case before a federal court, worth in excess of $500,000
  • Represented a tool manufacturer in settling a class action environmental violation (Toxic Substances Control Act) suit, worth in excess of $7 million
  • Represented a major medical insurer in settling a trademark infringement lawsuit in federal court, worth in excess of $500,000
  • Represented prior owners of a bio-cleaning material company in a trial victory in federal district court in a suit alleging breach of contract and fraud, worth in excess of $5 million
  • Represented a manufacturer of video games/slot machines in settling a copyright infringement case before a federal court, worth in excess of $1 million
