What powers my practice
I come from a family of lawyers and was always inspired by their passion for the profession and the way they viewed the law as a noble calling. I began my career as a commercial litigator and loved the energy of the courtroom, but over time I realized I wanted to focus on helping clients reach success without the need for winners and losers. For more than fifteen years, I’ve found fulfillment in guiding clients through complex transactions—helping them achieve their business goals in a collaborative, transparent way. I take pride in ensuring clients understand every aspect of a deal, from the risks and benefits to the timeline and costs, and in delivering excellent representation tailored to their needs.

For real estate developers, Matt offers practical guidance on organizational structuring, commercial and structured finance, and sophisticated real estate deals. Nothing is more rewarding to Matt than plugging himself into a team of professionals and business owners to develop a comprehensive strategic, business and legal plan to achieve the objectives of the client.
Clients—from emerging startups to multi-generational operating companies to law firms —rely on him as outside general counsel to advise boards and committees and negotiate critical contracts. As former chair of the Colorado Ethics Committee, Matt provides unique insight into professional responsibility and law firm governance. He regularly counsels lawyers and law firms on ethical issues and firm-level matters, including potential conflicts, employee matters, mergers and acquisitions—helping them navigate challenges with integrity and foresight.
