With a background in biomedical engineering, intellectual property&nbsp;protection, and technology commercialization, Jorie brings a strong technical perspective to the firm’s patent work. Her experience includes evaluating invention disclosures, conducting prior art and patentability research, and working with&nbsp;inventors,&nbsp;researchers,&nbsp;and legal counsel to&nbsp;prepare&nbsp;patent applications.&nbsp;

Prior to joining the firm, Jorie participated in Michael Best’s EDGE summer internship program, where she gained experience in&nbsp;patent&nbsp;law. While pursuing her doctoral degree, she also worked with Northwestern University’s Innovation and New Ventures Office (INVO), evaluating life sciences technologies for patent and commercialization potential. Her work included conducting prior art and scientific literature searches, supporting the development of patent claims, assessing market landscapes, and&nbsp;identifying&nbsp;potential licensing partners in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.&nbsp;

Jorie’s research at Northwestern University and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab&nbsp;in the area of&nbsp;biomedical engineering&nbsp;focused on biomechanics, medical imaging, and musculoskeletal modeling. Her work examined muscle and tendon adaptation following orthopedic procedures&nbsp;using&nbsp;ultrasound, MRI,&nbsp;strength assessments,&nbsp;and computational modeling. She has also conducted research involving computer-aided diagnostics and molecular biology and has presented and published her work in the biomechanics and medical imaging fields.&nbsp;
