My Why

What powers my practice

Early in my law career, I was a budding litigator writing briefs and making court appearances almost every day.  I loved winning my cases, especially when the decisions were reported in the New York Law Journal.

On one thorny real estate partnership dispute, I acted as co-counsel with a more experienced lawyer who was instrumental in resolving the dispute.  He was confident in his ability to do so without ever needing to step foot inside a courtroom, and did so by assessing the other side and asserting leverage and control.  He earned the client’s trust by listening, and then refining and ultimately meeting the client’s objective.

While I still love winning, my co-counsel taught me an invaluable lesson that I have carried forward in my practice. The one that fuels me daily is that being rich is not nearly as important as having rich relationships.  Nothing is more satisfying than being the first call my clients make – whether part of a new deal, at the first signs of a dispute or even for a personal matter outside of my practice area.  The mutual trust and respect that has grown in my client relationships has reshaped and reinvigorated my love for my law practice and drives me to succeed on my clients’ behalf.
