Cyber risk isn’t an IT problem anymore; it’s a leadership problem. Over the past six months, enforcement actions have made one thing unmistakably clear: regulators aren’t simply asking <em>whether</em> an organization was breached. They’re asking <em>what leadership did to prevent it</em>. The days of treating cybersecurity as a technical silo are over. Establish clear data governance ownership with reporting that leadership actually reviews. And critically, modernize the documents that define your obligations: update your privacy policy, refresh your terms of use, verify that access controls reflect current roles and responsibilities, confirm that data retention practices are actionable versus theoretical, and ensure your data breach response plan reflects today’s regulatory expectations.

Regulators don’t expect perfection, but they do expect intentionality. The organizations that treat privacy and cybersecurity as core governance responsibilities, not background IT functions are the ones that stay resilient, compliant, and trusted.
