Michael Best is pleased to announce that Michael Shaunessy has joined the firm as Partner in the Litigation practice and based in the Austin office. He brings decades of experience representing governmental and private sector clients in a wide range of litigation matters, including employment, commercial disputes, and serious personal injury claims.
“Michael is a seasoned trial lawyer with deep experience handling high‑stakes litigation across Texas,” said Carrie Meigs, Partner and Litigation Practice Group Co-Chair at Michael Best. “His ability to evaluate risk early, try cases to verdict, and guide clients through complex disputes by developing strategies that align with their business and operational priorities makes him an immediate asset to our litigation team.”
Shaunessy has tried jury cases to verdict in numerous counties throughout Texas and has handled matters at every stage of litigation, from pre‑suit counseling through trial. His experience spans breach of contract, unfair competition, fraud, partnership disputes, discrimination and retaliation claims, and matters involving governmental entities.

In addition to his client work, Shaunessy has held leadership roles within his prior firm, including serving on the management committee and leading the litigation section. He is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is a member of an invitation‑only national trial advocacy organization recognizing experienced trial lawyers. Shaunessy earned his J.D. from Southern Methodist University Law School and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin.
