Overview

Shane focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation and other complex litigation involving patents, trademarks, trade secrets, trade dress and licenses in a wide range of industries and technical fields in State and Federal courts across the country.

In particular, Shane has expertise representing clients in the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, biotechnology and computer technology industries. Shane has represented clients in courts across the country, including U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal and Seventh Circuits, and U.S. District Courts, in Delaware, Illinois, New Jersey, Texas, and Wisconsin, among others.

As a former certified public accountant, Shane brings a unique economic perspective and analysis to each case.

Prior to joining Michael Best, Shane served as a partner of a national intellectual property firm.

Experience

  • Represented a window manufacturer in a breach of contract litigation and jury trial.
  • Represented an agricultural equipment manufacturer in a patent infringement litigation and jury trial involving four patents on farm implement technology.
  • Represented an agricultural equipment manufacturer and patent owner in four IPR proceedings, obtaining three non-institution decisions and favorable settlement.
  • Represented a pharmaceutical manufacturer in a patent infringement litigation involving a medication for treating chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.
  • Represented a pharmaceutical manufacturer in a patent infringement litigation involving a topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication.
  • Represented wood flooring manufacturer in a patent infringement litigation and jury trial involving wood flooring products.
  • Represented a pharmaceutical manufacturer in patent infringement litigation and trial relating to an injectable anticoagulant medication.  
  • Represented a pharmaceutical manufacturer in a patent infringement litigation involving methods of treatment and packaging for medication for treating bone disease.
  • Represented garage door opener manufacturer in patent infringement litigation relating to garage opener products.
  • Represented food technology company in a trade secret litigation involving protein isolation.
  • Represented an electronics manufacturer in a patent, trademark, and trade dress case involving power conditioning products.
  • Represented biotechnology company in patent licensing dispute.
