Overview

Patrick’s practice focuses on advising hedge funds and investment firms in trading and financing arrangements.

With specific knowledge and experience in prime brokerage, margin financing, and derivatives trading documentation, he has helped clients ranging from startup funds to multi-billion-dollar advisors manage trading and portfolio finance risks and develop operational best practices. Patrick negotiates platform agreements such as prime brokerage agreements and financing lockups, ISDA Master Agreements and master confirmations, and repurchase and securities lending agreements, as well as trade-level agreements for specific investments. Clients trust Patrick to translate jargon into practical business concepts and identify the real-world decision points that affect their businesses.

Patrick also advises derivatives end-users on the relevant provisions of the U.S. Commodity Exchange Act and the ongoing regulatory changes and compliance requirements imposed by the Dodd-Frank Act, as well as related U.S. and global regulatory developments that affect trading agreements.

In addition to his focus on derivatives and trading documentation, Patrick has advised clients on a variety of banking and capital markets matters, including securitized investment products, credit facilities, global custody facilities, and guaranties.

Before joining Michael Best, Patrick was a Partner with Koya Law, a boutique firm specialized in representing trading and investment firms. Prior to his ten years with Koya Law, Patrick practiced with two major international firms.
