Overview

Marcus focuses his practice on domestic and international patent prosecution directed to electrical and software technologies. He is experienced with a broad range of innovations, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, cybersecurity, cloud computing and systems, Internet of Things (IoT), Software as a Service (SaaS), and telecommunications networks and systems.

Marcus assists clients with all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution, including conducting patentability and validity analyses, as well as patent acquisition.

Before joining Michael Best, Marcus was in-house IP counsel at IBM for more than three years.  There, he drafted and prosecuted patent applications, reviewed invention disclosures, analyzed prior art, and developed best practices for high-volume prosecution management.

Marcus began his legal career as a solo practitioner and contract attorney. He focused on patent and trademark matters but also assisted with transactional matters and provided litigation support for IP and antitrust disputes.

While in law school, Marcus worked as a Legal Research Assistant. As an undergraduate student, he served as an Engineering Intern at the Brookhaven National Laboratory.
