Larry is a former co-chair of the Intellectual Property practice group. A strong litigator, he also prosecutes U.S. and international patents, trademark, and copyright applications and prepares IP licenses. Due to his extensive background in many areas of intellectual property law, including both transactional and litigation experience, Larry is highly qualified to achieve positive outcomes using innovative strategies.

Larry serves clients in a wide variety of technologies, including computer and internet, motorized and non-motorized vehicles, medical, toys, electrical products, and laboratory equipment. His industry experience is equally diverse and includes restaurants and food, financial services, heavy motorized vehicles, assembly machinery, sports and entertainment, and retail merchandise.

Experience

Larry has litigated more than 80 IP cases, including:

  • Representing a toy manufacturer against a large customer and co-conspirators, he achieved a settlement in U.S. District Court for a large up-front payment and a long-term purchase agreement.
  • Representing a manufacturer of oral care products before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Larry successfully defended a key patent against an invalidity challenge by a competitor threatening to compete with a patent infringing product, thereby protecting the client’s sizeable market share.
  • Representing food distributors, he twice achieved favorable settlements in U.S. District Court and involved U.S. Customs to protect the client’s exclusive U.S. distribution rights.

Larry has been repeatedly named one of The Best Lawyers in America© and has been included on the “Illinois Super Lawyer” list in the area of intellectual property law by various rating services. Larry was named a recommended licensing expert in the United States – Illinois rankings by Intellectual Asset Management magazine in its newest rankings, IAM Patent 1000 - The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners, in 2012. He was also named one of Chicago’s Top Rated Lawyers by The Chicago Tribune and The Wall Street Journal.
