Lance practices in the areas of commercial litigation, corporate, and real estate law.
He is an experienced litigator who represents clients in a range of business disputes including contract disputes, breach of fiduciary duty, shareholder derivatives, fraud, corporate liability, non-compete agreements, and disputes arising from mergers and acquisitions. Lance also represents businesses in litigation related to their intellectual property assets as well as real estate disputes.
Additionally, Lance is an effective advocate for pharmaceutical-industry clients involved in disputes. He has successfully represented drug development companies in contractual and IP litigation, winning a unanimous jury verdict of $5.5 million (plus attorney’s fees) in a breach of contract dispute, and obtaining a verdict enforcing a client’s IP rights in a $296 million suit.
In addition to his litigation practice, Lance counsels businesses on a range of real estate issues such as drafting and reviewing purchase and sale contracts, residential and commercial leases, transfer of title, lease with option to purchase, and foreclosures, as well as landlord/tenant relations. He also advises clients on other transactions including acquisitions and divestures and conversion of property.
Before joining Michael Best, Lance was a member of entrepreneurial law firm RWR Legal in Austin. Previously, he was an Associate in the Dallas office of a national full-service law firm where he focused on commercial litigation and e-discovery. Earlier in his career Lance practiced with a full-service firm in Maui, Hawaii, where he specialized in complex civil litigation matters in the areas of business, real estate, and personal injury law.
