Kelly is an experienced litigator who has successfully represented corporations both large and small in all aspects of complex employment litigation in federal and state courts, before administrative agencies, and in alternative dispute resolution forums. She is well-versed in advising clients on best practices for dispute avoidance and compliance with federal and state labor and employment statutes.
Prior to joining Michael Best, Kelly was an attorney with a large, international firm. She focused her practice on defending employment-related claims before federal, state, and local courts and agencies. Kelly previously spent more than six years as in-house counsel to a global tire and rubber company. While working in-house, she represented several business units in assorted administrative proceedings and conducted numerous employment claim investigations.
Earlier, Kelly spent nearly nine years in private practice, representing employers against accusations of employee and tenant discrimination and in ERISA disputes. She also counseled clients on the preparation of employee policies and agreements, conducted investigations, and assisted with trial preparation and proceedings.
For over two years, Kelly also served as president of her own professional corporation, Kelly DeWitt, P.C., where she represented clients in various administrative agency and ADR proceedings. She also authored assorted employment policies and documents such as employee handbooks, personnel manuals, and separation and release agreements.
While pursuing her J.D., Kelly served as a legal intern to the National Labor Relations Board, (NLRB) where she gained experience with investigations into unfair labor practice allegations, assisted with settlement negotiations, and supported trial proceedings.
