Justin assists clients in achieving their business goals by obtaining protection of their intellectual property rights and developing strategies to enforce them.
Justin has extensive experience resolving IP related disputes through litigation. He has achieved positive results on behalf of his clients in cases involving utility patents, design patents, trade dress, copyrights, as well as challenging and defending the validity of patents through post-grant proceedings before the United States Patent Office (USPTO). He has experience across industries including medical devices, software systems, agricultural, and oil and gas.
Additionally, Justin’s experience includes application of blockchain technology, smart contracts, and cryptocurrencies. He volunteered with the Colorado Council for the Advancement of Blockchain Technology Use commissioned by then Governor Hickenlooper. There, Justin actively participated in the smart contract Council subgroup and participated in meetings and discussions of proposed policies and legislation in regulating digital tokens.
Prior to joining Michael Best, Justin served as a patent attorney and IP Litigation Practice Chair for a Colorado based patent firm, where he assisted clients with identifying their intellectual property needs, developing a strategy to obtain protection, determining the appropriate avenues to protect IP assets, and advising clients with strategies in asserting their rights. He also previously worked as an IP litigator at one of the largest IP boutiques in the Rocky Mountain region.
