Overview

Julia brings an extensive technical background to her work in U.S. and global patent prosecution in the life sciences. She provides careful and detailed analysis in regard to patentability, patent filing, and complex arguments against patent application rejections related to prior art, enablement, written description, and patent-eligible subject matter.

With a Ph.D. in biochemistry, Julia focuses her practice on patents in diagnostics, therapeutics, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology, encompassing a diverse range of subject matter, including the following:

  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Neurodegenerative diseases
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Vaccines and adjuvants
  • Pesticides
  • Industrial cleaning compositions
  • Nuclear energy
  • Medical isotope production

Experience

Recent engagements include the following:

  • Protection of the patent portfolio for a small start-up technology company serving the nuclear engineering industry. Julia’s work covering the entire innovative technology portfolio, both in the U.S. and internationally, enabled the client to obtain venture capital funding.
  • Complex inventorship analysis related to patent protection for a university. Julia filed patent applications in the U.S. and several other countries.

Prior to joining the firm's IP Group, Julia researched and developed glucose biosensors for a large biotechnology company in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park.
