Joshua assists clients with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the chemical, material, and life sciences, as well as contributing to freedom to operate and patentability opinions. He acquired a deep understanding of molecular and materials science during his time as a research chemist, particularly in regard to electrochemical cells, metallurgy, and nanotechnology.
Joshua began with Michael Best as a member of the EDGE internship program. Prior to joining the firm, he earned his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where his thesis research provided insight into structure-property relationships of complex intermetallic compounds.
As an undergraduate student at Iowa State University, Joshua worked on synthesizing catalysts for cross-dehydrocoupling reactions of organosilanes with amines, hydrazine, and ammonia.
