As a senior associate with Michael Best Strategies, Jenise supports clients in the organization’s Colorado office. She draws on her unique experience with the state’s legislature and works with Strategies’ teams in its Western state offices, as well as in Washington, D.C.
Prior to joining Strategies, Jenise was a special advisor to the speaker in Colorado’s General Assembly, where her priority focuses were budget, appropriations, and special projects. In 2013 she was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives, and served on multiple committees including the Finance, Health and Human Services, Joint Budget (as vice chair), Appropriations (as vice chair), and Amendment 64 Use and Regulation of Marijuana committees. While serving as an elected representative, Jenise achieved a variety of important accomplishments, including working to require community colleges to offer four-year degrees in applied sciences; establishing a statewide child welfare hotline for abused and neglected children; increasing the TABOR reserved to 6%; increasing higher education funding and capping tuition increase; and reducing business property taxes while still increasing K-12 funding.
Jenise has 24 years of Human Service experience, and served as the Deputy Director for the Colorado Department of Human Services. In that role, she oversaw more than 2,000 employees and managed an $800 million budget. She championed several state nursing home initiatives, fostered growth and advocated for job retention, and acted as a spokesperson for the department, both with the media and with the state legislature.
