Jeffrey W. Childers, Ph.D.



Jeff provides strategic counseling to clients regarding their patents. With a scientific background and Ph.D. in Chemistry, he is experienced in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and molecular diagnostic arts; material sciences; medical device field; and other related areas.

Jeff pairs a creative approach with strong attention to detail in the preparation, filing, and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications. In addition to his prosecution work, he prepares patentability, freedom-to-operate, and infringement/non-infringement opinions; provides guidance and counseling on the intellectual property aspects of licensing and business transactions; and provides strategic patent portfolio management advice. 

Jeff previously served as in-house patent counsel for the Johns Hopkins Technology Transfer Office.


Jeff’s notable experience includes:

  • Managing several patent license portfolios for a major research university and coordinating patent prosecution with licensees while protecting the client’s interest
  • Procuring worldwide patent protection for a start-up pharmaceutical company
  • Procuring patent protection for an industry leading consumer products company
