Eric is an experienced attorney, focusing in the areas of patent prosecution, clearance, and portfolio management for companies of all types. His diverse technical experience spans software, robotics, electronics, medical devices, mechanical technologies, and more.
Eric helps companies obtain both U.S. and international patent protection for their innovations, often working closely with in-house counsel, business unit leaders, and engineers to understand their latest technologies and help elicit new invention disclosures. He has significant experience performing patentability, validity, infringement, freedom-to-operate, and other clearance analyses, as well as providing well researched opinions of counsel. Eric has also counseled clients on IP due diligence related to key business transactions. Additionally, he advises clients on global patent portfolio management and optimization strategies.
Before joining Michael Best, Eric was a sole IP practitioner for seven years, counseling start-ups and small businesses. At the same time Eric served as Of Counsel to a Texas IP boutique firm, serving several large corporate clients in an IP General Counsel capacity. Early in his career, Eric spent several years as an Associate with the same IP boutique before starting his own practice.
