Emily provides practical counsel to employers of all sizes, investing in learning about their businesses so she can provide pragmatic advice on day-to-day issues and help them implement best practices and policies. Emily advises clients on a wide range of matters including wage and hour compliance, employment policies, hiring, discipline, and terminations, accommodations, leave management, anti-discrimination practices, and workplace investigations.
When disputes arise, Emily is an effective advocate for her clients. She has nearly 20 years of experience defending employers in agency proceedings and employment litigation. Emily has represented clients before numerous government agencies and in federal and state trial and appeals courts. Emily also represents employee benefit plans and insurers in disputes under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and insurers in the defense of general life and disability insurance litigation.
As an editor of the Colorado Employment Law Letter for 14 years, Emily has remained at the vanguard of legal developments and trends in state, federal, and local laws governing the employment relationship.
Before joining Michael Best, Emily was a partner in the Denver office of a national law firm.
