Overview

Clients from regulated industries such as health care, insurance, public utilities and financial services call on Dave for sound counsel on a wide range of corporate, transactional, and regulatory matters.

Dave has substantial regulatory experience with state and federal agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, and the Wisconsin Public Service Commission.

His health care practice has focused on organizing:

  • Faculty practice plans,
  • Health maintenance organizations (HMOs)
  • Limited service health organizations
  • Preferred provider organizations (PPOs)
  • Independent practice associations (IPAs)
  • Joint ventures

In managing major transactions and policy initiatives for both for-profit and non-profit clients, Dave brings colleagues together from diverse practice areas of the firm to help his clients realize their objectives.

 

Dave’s work is regularly honored with national and regional rankings. He is listed in Who’s Who in American Law and has also received an AV Preeminent rating, Martindale-Hubbell’s highest peer review rating for legal ability and ethical standards.

Prior to joining Michael Best, Dave served as Assistant Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General for the State of Wisconsin. As Deputy Attorney General, he had line supervision authority for the Wisconsin Department of Justice Attorneys involved in all aspects of Wisconsin State Government.

Mr. Hanson has been recognized in the areas of Health Care, Government Relations and Energy Law in The Best Lawyers in America®, published by Woodward/White, Inc. This same publication also recognized him as Madison, Wisconsin’s 2016 and 2011 “Lawyer of the Year” in the area of Government Relations Law. He was acknowledged as a “Top Lawyer” in the area of Health Care Law by Madison Magazine in 2009. Mr. Hanson is listed in Who’s Who in American Law and as one of “Wisconsin’s Best Lawyers.” He was also rated AV Preeminent in Insurance Law by Martindale-Hubbell’s peer review; an achievement of Martindale’s highest rating in legal ability and ethical standards.
