David is an attorney in the firm’s Corporate practice group and a member of the Venture Best® team. He focuses his practice on matters relating to start-up and emerging businesses as well as digital technology. Clients benefit from his experience creating and building early and growth-stage companies, specifically focusing on technology-driven products.

As a member of the firm’s Blockchain, Digital Currencies & Smart Contracts industry group, David works with startups and established businesses to develop, structure, and deploy blockchain- and smart contract-based applications and solutions.

Prior to joining Michael Best, David was co-founder and CEO of Settledge, a start-up that developed a dispute resolution platform for smart-contracts. He also co-founded and served as COO of Agraria Technologies, a venture studio and consulting firm that designs and builds blockchain-based platforms for a range of applications and stakeholder use-cases. He has experience consulting with and advising seed and growth-stage companies on commercialization, strategy development, and regulatory due diligence.

While pursuing his LLM, David was a Blackstone Fellow with the Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network North Carolina, where he worked on the organization and syndication of university-affiliated angel investor networks in the RTP-area.

David began his law career as a summer law clerk for the Honorable Robert J. Conrad, U.S. District Court Judge, W.D.N.C., as well as the U.S. Attorney’s Office, E.D.N.C. He also spent time as an intern with Associate Justice Paul O. Newby of the North Carolina Supreme Court, and in the Columbia, South Carolina office of Senator Lindsey O. Graham.

Honors & Recognitions

While pursuing his education, David was the recipient of several accolades including the Men’s Basketball Academic Award at the University of South Carolina, the CALI Awards in Constitutional Law and Legislation & Administrative Law at Wake Forest University School of Law, and the Law & Entrepreneurship Scholarship at Duke University School of Law.
