Brian helps companies obtain patent protection for their computer and software technologies. He works closely with client innovators to develop patent filing and portfolio strategies to achieve their business goals while staying within budget.

Brian handles U.S. and international patent drafting and prosecution in technical areas such as hardware, software, network infrastructures, semiconductors, telecommunications, mechanical devices, and consumer products. He also conducts patentability, validity, freedom to operate, and infringement analyses.


Before joining Michael Best, Brian worked in the Boston office of a major international law firm, where he counseled clients on patent prosecution, enforcement, licensing, and due diligence for transactions, and also advised on trademark and copyright protection. Previously, Brian practiced with a business law firm in Massachusetts, and with an IP boutique in Virginia.

Prior to entering private practice, Brian was a patent analyst for a leading global patent research and analysis firm. Earlier in his career, he spent several years as a Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office where he focused within the art units of error correction and detection, networking, and other technological fields.
