Overview

Akhil is a Patent Engineer who assists with the drafting, preparation, and prosecution of patent applications directed to mechanical and electronic innovations. He works closely with Michael Best’s attorneys to obtain strong patent protection for clients’ valuable intellectual assets.

Akhil holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked at General Motors while pursing his undergraduate degree. In this role, he designed and fabricated 3D printed components to improve machine alignment and reduce machine failure. He created custom graphical user interfaces (GUIs) using high-level programming language to analyze data. Akhil also gained valuable experience with developing and implementing diagnostic tools and optimizing machining processes.

While working as an additive manufacturing and computer vision intern at HYREL 3D, a manufacturing company that produces specialty 3D printers, Akhil assisted with modifying 3D printer designs, and developed an algorithm to improve accuracy of a pick-and-place machine.

Akhil’s research experience includes roles at the Exoskeleton Prosthetic Intelligent Controls (EPIC) Lab, where he helped with R&D for wearable robotics systems designed to improve mobility for disabled individuals, and at the Rehabilitative Engineering and Applied Research (REAR) Lab, where he focused on sensor technologies related to the biomechanics of wheelchair use.

Akhil served as the mechanical team lead for Georgia Tech’s Robotics Team, where he led design of an autonomous off-road ground vehicle. His undergraduate engineering projects also included design and fabrication of an off-road electric skateboard using multiple rapid prototyping technologies, development of a computer vision controlled robotic arm, and design and fabrication of reusable facial mask prototypes.

While completing his undergraduate degree, Akhil participated in Michael Best’s EDGE patent engineering internship program before joining the firm full-time.
