On Wednesday, April 29, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, issued an emergency order, temporarily prohibiting landlords from charging late fees and penalties for late payments of rent.
This Order is an amendment to DATCP’s Residential Rental Practices, contained in the Wisconsin Administrative Code under ATCP 134, so it does not apply to commercial leases.
The Order is in effect during the public health emergency (ending May 10, 2020) and for 90 days afterward (August 8, 2020), with some provisions if the Governor’s emergency order is reversed earlier, or if the emergency is extended.
If you have any questions regarding this emergency order, contact Nancy Haggerty.
