Leon Elected to Fellows of the American Bar Foundation

Chicago, IL (February 26, 2018) – Michael Best is pleased to announce that Jorge M. Leon has been elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation is an honorary society of attorneys, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the highest principles of the legal profession and to the welfare of their communities. Members are nominated by their peers and elected by the Board of the American Bar Foundation. Leon, a partner in the firm’s Labor & Employment Relations Practice Group, was selected from among one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in Illinois.

Leon counsels plan administrators, sponsors and fiduciaries of small operations to large multinational companies on the design, administration and compliance of their retirement, health and welfare, executive compensation and other benefit plans.  Leon also guides clients on all stages of ERISA litigation and on the benefit aspects of mergers and acquisitions.  Leon has successfully represented and defended clients before the IRS, DOL and PBGC.

A leading ERISA practitioner and a thought-leader on diversity, Leon has been honored by Crain’s Custom Media as one of the 2017 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in Chicago, named a Top Latino Lawyer nationally by Latino Leaders Magazine in 2016 & 2017, and named a recognized practitioner by Chambers USA in the category of employee benefits & compensation in 2016 & 2017. Leon also serves as the chair of Michael Best’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and on the board of Gads Hill Center (a 120-year-old nonprofit serving children and families in Chicago’s Hispanic communities).  Leon’s opinions and views are frequently sought by nationally recognized publishers, journalists, and professional organizations.

He earned his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1998 and received his B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1995.
