Michael Best Employees Catch the Volunteer Bug

The law firm of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP launched an internal campaign titled “Catch the Bug” designed to increase the level of volunteerism and participation in other hands-on activities that aid in strengthening our communities.

Michael Best’s commitment to give back to the communities in which we live and work is integral to the firm’s culture and identity. The firm has long since participated in community outreach through sponsorships, donations, board membership, pro bono, and other unique activities. “While many of those who are less fortunate benefit from our current community initiatives, we feel there is always room to do more,” stated Josh Gimbel, a Michael Best partner who participates in the Catch the Bug Committee and the firm’s Community Outreach Committee. “As we continue the campaign, we hope that more employees catch the volunteer bug and the desire to do more to help others” Gimbel added.

Complete with its own logo, this initiative has created quite a “buzz” across the firm. Since January, the firm’s Catch the Bug Committee has provided Michael Best employees with monthly activities through which they can donate their time and/or talent to a community initiative. Since that time, the Committee has received great feedback and increased participation in the program. The firm’s monthly initiatives included:

January: Donating old greeting cards to St. Jude's Ranch for Children for the creation of new cards

February: Crafting Valentine cards for seniors

March: Donating office coffee mugs to a non-profit organization for the hungry in downtown Milwaukee

April: Teaching an elementary class at a Milwaukee Public School through Junior Achievement’s JA in a Day Program

May: Donating 10 desktop computers to a Milwaukee Public School

May: Volunteering at Channel 10 Great TV Auction

June: Assembling flower pot birthday cards for nursing home residents

August: Distributing backpacks to YMCA school-aged children

September: Collecting new and gently used shoes for the Shoes for Africa organization

October: Silent Auction to support United Way
