A retrospective analysis of 2014 shows it was an eventful year for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the regulation of food. A significant number of developments arose related to the FDA’s efforts to implement the Food Safety and Modernization Act. The FDA began the year releasing its proposed rule on the sanitary transport of food and feed and closed the year by revising a number of the proposed FSMA rules issued back in 2013. In February, the FDA entered into a consent decree with the Center for Food Safety to establish deadlines for the issuance of the final rules under the FSMA.
