Milwaukee, WI (March 21, 2016) – Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is pleased to announce Ram P. Menon has joined the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group as Senior Counsel. Menon brings more than 20 years of combined legal, technical and business experience to the firm.
Menon’s practice draws upon his broad background in patent prosecution, licensing and IP transactions, including leading the deal team at Research In Motion Limited in the $4.5 Billion acquisition of Nortel’s patent portfolio by the Rockstar Consortium. He counsels clients on all aspects of intellectual property, including patent strategy, portfolio development, valuation, monetization, enforcement and licensing.
Prior to joining Michael Best, Menon owned Menon IP, an intellectual property consulting business. Before starting his own business, Menon was Senior Licensing Counsel for Blackberry Corporation, a global leader in mobile communications, where he counseled senior management on a wide spectrum of IP matters. Menon also worked as a patent attorney for a boutique intellectual property firm in Minneapolis, MN.
Menon received his J.D. in Intellectual Property Law from the William Mitchell College of Law in 2006, M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 1993 and B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bharatidasan University in 1990. Most recently, Menon received an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 2013.
As an active member of various professional organizations, Menon serves as Secretary of the Licensing Executive Society’s Mobile and Consumer Electronics Committee and is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He is also a member of the Wisconsin Intellectual Property Law Association and American Intellectual Property Law Association. Menon is fluent in Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil.
