Milwaukee, WI (November 18, 2015) – Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is pleased to announce the firm has received a near-perfect score of 90 percent in the 2016 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices relating to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Michael Best’s score reflects a commitment to LGBT workplace equality with respect to tangible policies, benefits and practices.
Lori S. Meddings, Chair of Michael Best’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, stated, “Our firm continues to look for ways to foster an inclusive environment so that all of our attorneys and employees feel safe and welcome, and can thrive. Taking steps to ensure our firm policies and practices are neutral as to gender, gender identity and sexual orientation supports this goal. We are honored to be recognized by the Human Rights Campaign and will continue to make LGBT-equality a priority.”
HRC Foundation Workplace Equality Program Director Deena Fidas stated, "The Corporate Equality Index is a roadmap of LGBT inclusion in the workplace, and when companies take part it shows they are making a real commitment to treating their LGBT employees with equality and respect. All employees should be welcomed and valued in their place of work, and the CEI shows that, year after year, more and more companies are extending equal protections, benefits and practices for their LGBT workers."
The 2016 CEI rated a total of 1,027 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community.
