Michael Best Adds Seven IP Attorneys to Washington, D.C., Practice

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 1, 2015) – Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is pleased to announce that seven former attorneys of Fishman Stewart Yamaguchi have joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. practice. Leading the group are Partners Christopher M. Tobin and Yoichiro Yamaguchi.

Chris Tobin specializes in high-technology intellectual property issues. In addition to having 18 years of experience in an IP law firm environment, he previously served as a patent examiner in the electrical arts at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and as senior patent counsel for a large multinational corporation.

Yoichiro Yamaguchi is recognized for his knowledge in Japanese intellectual property law and has testified at trials as an expert witness. Mr. Yamaguchi began his career examining patent applications as an examiner in the electrical field and later working as an appeal examiner at the Board of Appeals in the Japanese Patent Office. He currently advises and counsels many Japanese companies regarding patents, trademarks, trade secret matters, copyrights, licensing and infringement matters.

Dutton is also a former patent examiner with more than 20 years of experience. He prepares and prosecutes complex patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, PCT and foreign patent offices.

Robert J. Kimmer, Senior Counsel

Kimmer has extensive experience handling worldwide trademark, copyright, and trade secret prosecution and litigation including enforcement and cost-effective IP strategy development.

Eric L. Maughan, Associate

Maughan primarily focuses on patent law, particularly the preparation and prosecution of utility patent applications in the electrical and mechanical arts.

Kiran K. Patel, Associate

Patel primarily focuses on patent law, particularly the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a wide range of technological fields, including the electrical, computer science and mechanical arts.

Michael P. Santonocito, Associate

Santonocito focuses primarily on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a wide range of technological fields, including displays, image sensors and electrical circuitry. He also provides a variety of analyses related to the enforcement and defense of existing patents.
