Milwaukee, WI (March 31, 2015) – Billie Jean Smith, a partner in the Michael Best & Friedrich LLP Intellectual Property Practice Group, will be honored with the Opus College of Engineering Service Award at the upcoming Marquette University Alumni National Awards Weekend. The annual event brings hundreds of guests and alumni back to campus for a weekend of bonding, storytelling, networking and award ceremonies.
Smith, 1989 graduate of the college, earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. She later earned her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
“My technical background as an engineer enables me to understand my clients’ product development issues as well as other challenges they face,” Smith says of how her education at Marquette has contributed to her career success. “Marquette’s emphasis on qualities of excellence, faith, leadership and service guide me every day. I am honored to have been recognized by my alma mater and to return to campus to accept the special award.”
Smith will receive her award at the Opus College of Engineering Awards Convocation and Reception on the evening of Friday, April 24. The convocation begins at 8pm in the Weasler Auditorium and is followed by a reception at 9:30pm in the AMU Marquette Place.
She is also member of the Society of Women Engineers, the Biomedical Engineering Society and Women in Manufacturing, among other professional organizations.
