WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 27, 2015) – Michael Best Strategies LLC (Strategies) is pleased to announce Sarah Petre and Alex Hayes will join the organization’s new office in Washington, D.C. In their roles, Petre will serve as Director of Governmental Affairs and will manage day-to-day operations of the DC office. Hayes will serve as an Associate. Both Petre and Hayes will report to President and former Wisconsin State Senator Ted Kanavas.

Petre previously served as Regulatory Counsel at ASTM International where she supported and advised the Office of Global Policy and Industry Affairs on legal, legislative, and regulatory issues affecting a variety of industries, including consumer products, energy, environment, transportation, technology, and trade. Additionally, she supported the General Counsel on intellectual property, litigation, employment, and contract issues. Petre also worked at the National Beer Wholesalers Association and the Republican National Committee. Petre received her Juris Doctor from George Mason University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Hayes has valuable experience at the federal, state, and local levels of government. Most recently, he worked with the Colorado Water Trust on water and environmental issues to protect Colorado’s rivers. He previously worked at Burns & Associates in Phoenix, Arizona, where he helped the firm form and advocate on behalf of a partnership of hospitals and health care providers. Hayes has also worked in the General Counsel’s Office of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and on United States Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign. Hayes received his Juris Doctor from the University of Arizona and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Southern California.
