The case may have been make believe, but the proceedings at Saturday’s mock trial competition at the Racine County Law Enforcement Center had all the feel of the real deal.
Serious and focused students dressed to the nines took on the role of defense or prosecution as they competed against peers from other schools in the region and tried to rack up points from a panel of evaluators who are real-life attorneys and judges who volunteer their time for the program.
Eleven teams took part in the Racine regional, said Greg Helding, a local attorney and alderman. Just two were from Racine County, Waterford and St. Catherine’s, with the other schools coming from Kenosha and Milwaukee counties.
