Michael Best Promotes Eight Associates to the Partnership

Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is proud to announce that eight associates have been promoted to partners. They are: Edward J. Evans, Plymouth D. Nelson, Katrina G. Hull, Thomas J. Janczewski, Kirk A. Pelikan, Leah H. Ziemba, Gilberto E. Espinoza and Anna J. Wildeman.

Edward J. Evans


Intellectual Property


Evans focuses on the prosecution of U.S. and international patent application involving mechanical subject matter.


Prior to becoming an attorney, Evans worked at Michael Best for several years as a patent engineer, during which time he drafted over one-hundred patent application and was exposed to the various stages of patent prosecution.


Plymouth D. Nelson

Intellectual Property


Nelson focuses on U.S. and international patent prosecution in various industries including consumer products, industrial manufacturing and medical devices.


Nelson has extensive experience in patentability analysis.

Katrina G. Hull

Intellectual Property



Hull’s practice focuses on trademark and copyright law, including enforcement, international and domestic trademark prosecution, trademark clearance searching and licensing, unfair competition and Internet issues.


Thomas A. Janczewski



Janczewski’s practice concentrates on federal contracting law. Janczewski has represented federal contractors of all sizes and needs- from Small Business Administration, to large federal contractors with international reach.


Janczewski also actively practices general commercial litigation practice with substantial experience in both state and federal court handling a broad range of matters including commercial torts, contract disputes, trade secrets and insurance.



Kirk A. Pelikan

Labor and Employment


Pelikan has broad experience assisting clients with benefits and labor, as well as employment issues. Pelikan routinely works with clients to develop and maintain effective compliance strategies related to defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans and welfare benefit plans.


Having knowledge in both benefits and employment law, Pelikan has worked all aspects of the employment cycle. He is uniquely positioned to identify both the opportunities and vulnerabilities of a particular employment decision.

Leah H. Ziemba

       Transactional Group, Land and Resources      


In addition to the Transactional Practice Group and Land and Resources Group, Ziemba is a member of the Agribusiness, Food and Beverage Group and the Energy Industry Group.


She regularly handles environmental matters arising under federal and state law such as the Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and related state laws. In addition, Ziemba assists clients with greenhouse gas emission regulation, carbon credits, and renewable portfolio standards.

Gilberto E. Espinoza


Intellectual Property


Espinoza practices intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent litigation at both the trial and appellate levels.


In addition to intellectual property litigation, Espinoza also has experience counseling clients with respect to patents, conducting analyses related to patentability, patent infringement, patent validity and working on related opinion matters.

Anna J. Wildeman

Energy, Environmental, Agribusiness and Food Processing & Distribution


During her career, Wildeman has secured and negotiated federal, state and local permits and approvals for a number of large projects, including industrial facilities, renewable energy plants and livestock operations.


Wildeman has also assisted buyers, sellers and lenders in assessing environmental issues in transactions and redevelopment projects.
