Wei Yan, Ph.D. has joined the Chicago office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP as an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group.
Yan’s practice will focus on patent preparation and prosecution, including counseling clients on patentability assessment, invalidation, freedom to operate analysis and due diligence. He has a technical background in several areas, including: organic chemistry, small molecule synthesis, pharmaceuticals, health and nutrition, metabolic diseases, biotechnology, bio-analytical and diagnostic tools, mass spectrometry, cellular signaling, lipid chemistry, proteins and nucleic acids, polymers and computer languages.
Prior to joining Michael Best, Yan worked as a patent attorney in St. Louis advising clients predominately in the life sciences and chemistry sectors. He also previously worked at Washington University’s School of Medicine (St. Louis) for eight years researching phospholipase, biological membrane, lipid metabolism, nutritional science, obesity and diabetes.
Yan received his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law (2010); his Ph.D. in chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis (2005); and his M.S. and B.A. from Fudan University in Shanghai, China (1999 and 1996).
