Michael Best is pleased to announce that Tracy James, a nationally recognized construction litigator, has joined the firm as Partner and National Construction Industry Team Lead, based in the Charlotte office. James is widely regarded and recognized for her leadership in the field as Chair of the ABA Forum on Construction Law, a Band 1 Chambers‑ranked litigator, and an experienced AAA arbitrator.
James’ arrival marks the strategic national expansion of the firm’s construction practice. She brings more than two decades of experience representing owners, developers, contractors, engineers, and design professionals in complex construction matters and large‑scale dispute resolution, including cross‑border issues and multimillion‑dollar claims.
“Tracy’s reputation in the construction industry speaks for itself, and it is well earned,” said David Krutz, Michael Best Firm Managing Partner. “Clients rely on her experience and judgment to help them reach their strategic objectives when disputes arise. We are honored to have her lead our national construction practice.”
James’ addition marks another milestone in Michael Best’s continued expansion in the Southeast. Since 2021, the firm has more than quadrupled its size and revenue in North Carolina, reflecting growing demand for strategic legal support across key industries in the region. James’ longstanding client relationships in these markets, combined with her national profile, supports the firm’s ongoing growth strategy and expanding multistate project work.
In addition to her professional achievements, James has served numerous leadership roles within the ABA Forum on Construction Law, including her current position as Chair and other positions on the Governing Committee, Division Chairs Committee, and in key roles focused on project delivery, technology, dispute resolution, programming, and diversity initiatives.
“We are thrilled to welcome Tracy, whose combination of legal acumen, industry insight, and leadership will support the continued expansion of our construction practice,” said Andy Jones, National Strategic Growth Partner. "Her arrival enhances our ability to serve clients in high‑growth markets and positions the firm for continued national momentum.”
James will advance Michael Best’s national construction industry team as it continues to grow in response to client needs driven by infrastructure investment, supply chain expansion, and ongoing developments across the U.S., building on its longstanding Midwest foundation and complementing recent growth in the Mountain West.
