Three Michael Best Partners Recognized as Notable Intellectual Property Attorneys by BizTimes

Michael Best is pleased to announce that Partners Gregory Hartwig, Daniel Jones, and Kevin Moran have been recognized as Notable Intellectual Property Attorneys by BizTimes. Award recipients are intellectual property attorneys in southeastern Wisconsin who serve at a senior-level role, demonstrate measurable impact on cases and clients, serve in leadership positions outside of their firms, and mentor junior attorneys.

Based in Michael Best’s Milwaukee office, Hartwig focuses his practice on the protection of intellectual property assets in the U.S. and abroad. He works extensively with universities and companies in the life sciences, pharmaceutical, health care and chemical industries. Hartwig’s extensive background encompasses patent preparation and prosecution, enforcement, and technology dispute resolution, as well as licensing and opinion work in the technical areas of drug discovery, pharmaceutical formulations, diagnostics, specialty chemicals, material science, and medical devices. He is also adept at conducting IP due diligence investigations for significant commercial transactions to provide clients with a clear picture of IP strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

Jones is a seasoned practitioner, based in the Milwaukee office, focusing on high-value patent matters directed to mechanical technologies. He regularly leverages his knowledge of the firm’s legal and consulting services to align a tailored team to achieve each client’s objectives. In addition to managing a robust prosecution practice, Jones drafts and negotiates licenses, IP provisions of asset purchase agreements, and design and development agreements, among other IP-related agreements. He also counsels clients on enforcement and dispute avoidance and provides technical and strategic support in contentious matters.

Recently promoted as Practice Group Chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, Moran practices in Michael Best’s Waukesha office. He focuses on protecting clients’ intellectual property, including acquisition of, enforcement of, and defense against U.S. and international patents. Moran’s strong track record in these areas, paired with a technical background as a product engineer, gives him a unique perspective on the challenges facing developers of mechanical, electro-mechanical, and biomedical technologies. He has significant experience in technology areas including automotive, textiles, fitness equipment, lifts, lighting, and digital cameras.
