Russia Update: April 15, 2022


Italy will reopen its embassy in Kyiv next week.

The Department of Justice unsealed an indictment against a Russian legislator and two of his staff for attempting to violate sanctions.

Japan’s lower house of parliament passed bills to strip Russia of its most favored nation status.


Yesterday’s seizure by the UK of assets of associates of Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich was due to a flurry of asset transfers during the invasion.

Ukraine Sitrep

Russian media reported that the cruiser Moskva, which the U.S. believes was hit by two Ukrainian anti-ship missiles, sunk to the bottom of the Black Sea while being towed to port. Russia lashed out with a heavy assault all over Ukraine, including missiles hitting Kyiv. This includes Russia bombing Mariupol with Tu-22m3 long-range bombers – the first known use of these bombers of the war.

The Czech Republic sent multi-rocket launchers to Ukraine. Germany continues to be hesitant about tank deliveries. Sens. Rob Portman (R-OH), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Roger Wicker (R-MS), and Dick Durbin (D-IL) sent a letter to President Joe Biden urging him to appoint a Ukraine Security Assistance Coordinator.

Police say they have found over 900 bodies of civilians in the wake of Russia’s retreat from the Kyiv area, including 350 in Bucha.
